CLASE

The Center for Latino Achievement and Success in the College of Education Education (CLASE) was created in January 2003, funded by a grant from The Goizueta Foundation. It serves an educational resource center helping to improve the education of Hispanics/Latinos in Georgia.  The useful links page on this website lists education initiatives, community resources, scholarships, and Latino news sources.


FACS
The College of Family and Consumer Sciences offers majors in Child and Family Development, Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors, Foods and Nutrition, Housing and Consumer Economics, and Family and Consumer Sciences Education.


TELL
The Teachers for English Language Learners (TELL) Program is designed to increase the number of highly qualified bilingual teachers in Georgia’s public schools.
Non-certified teachers and paraprofessionals who are bilingual are awarded scholarships and other support services to earn professional certification. In return, they must commit to teaching three years in a high-need school in Georgia.


Ecolatino
Athens Eco Latino is a free, monthly, bilingual magazine with 10,000 copies being distributed in seven Northeast Georgia counties. The goal of Athens Eco Latino is to inform, educate and serve the Hispanic community as well as people who speak English and take interest in our rich culture and Spanish language. Athens needs and deserves a forum for Hispanics and other residents to find local information on such important topics as health, immigration, education, work, organizations and businesses plus other entertainment topics such as culture, music, profiles and sports.


Labsof Ethnobiology
The Laboratories of Ethnobiology are part of the University of Georgia's (UGA) Department of Anthropology and contribute to the department's program in Ecological and Environmental Anthropology. Research projects are currently underway in Southern Mexico among the Tzeltal, Tzotzil, and Lacandon Maya, with an emphasis on nutritional and medical ethnobiology. Laboratory faculty and students are affiliated with El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR), in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico through the UGA and ECOSUR academic exchange program. Much of the work is conducted in conjunction with ECOSUR's Proyecto Etnobiología Maya y Productos Alternativos and its associated Herbario Etnobotánico de Chiapas (HECH).


Mexican American Business Chamber
The Mexican American Business Chamber is the dynamic force promoting and uniting the Georgia business community. With nearly 1,000 members, it is one of the largest business organization in Georgia.  The Chamber harnesses the power of this solid and growing membership base to create an environment where businesses thrive, where government supports local commerce and where the community and business work together for our city’s future. The Chamber's size and strength allows the organization to offer a wide variety of programs and services to support both large and small businesses. These services include networking and promotional opportunities, relocation assistance, legislative advocacy, commercial mission and educational seminars, to name a few
